The poet Dr. Nouran FouadContemporary women issues
Dr. Noorhan Fouad, a poetess and scholar, has addressed the contemporary issues of women in the conference titled “Contemporary Women… in the Writings of Reformers… Challenges and Mechanisms of Addressing Them.”
The main objectives of our conference intersect with the selected themes, guided by a conscious philosophy and prudent theorizing. Here, I focus on the second axis concerning contemporary women and the achievement of intellectual and societal security. This discussion leads us to the role of women in the current period, amidst the digital revolution and upheaval in the Arab and international communities. Activating this human role in our contemporary era is an attempt to transcend the current reality and create a more advanced reality. Transcendence necessarily implies moving beyond the previous societal norms that constrained women outside the bounds of societal awareness, keeping them away from education, innovation, and cultural production on a personal, familial, and societal level. This shift reflects the success of an intelligent and effective woman not only in her family but also for her own success.
This cultural and social development stems from the intellectual and societal context, which provides mechanisms to address the challenges facing contemporary women’s issues, including:
- Technological advancement (audio and visual media).
- The spread of secularism.
- The proliferation of education.
We live in an era of societal communication through social media platforms, a significant source of knowledge. This phenomenon is accompanied by another crucial aspect, women’s electronic blogs, and other digital platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and the rapid advancement of information technology.
